Get Your Act On! (Andrea and Jeffrey) have been in Covington, LA for the past week conducting relief efforts with the Veterans for Peace. Our first week here it was simply too dangerous to enter the City of New Orleans, but in the past 5 days we have been into the city 3 times and have decided that, military zones aside, it is time to enter the city and start taking back our neighborhoods. In the next day or two we will be returning to our home and setting up relief efforts in the Bywater neighborhood and encouraging others to return. Please check out our blog for more complete updates - communications have been somewhat sketchy and so we don't promise that we will be able to update the site every day from New Orleans, but we will do our best. Some serious things are going down in New Orleans - we have many questions and very few answers. We fear that New Orleans is slated to be turned into a 'destination resort' - a Disneyfied version of New Orleans, minus the people that make the culture of New Orleans what it is. We refuse to watch our city be stolen and its cultural heritage trashed. Get Your Act On! is moving back in and will take it from there - we want our city and our people back. Apologies for any problems with the website - it's been hard getting internet access and so while we've tried our best to overhaul the site, doubtless there will be some bad links and a few other things that don't look right - please bear with us and follow our blog and look at the gallery. |

Your Act On! is a non-partisan
network of concerned groups and individuals that supports
dignity, respect and fundamental human rights for all. Our
mission is to foster a solid social and political network
throughout New Orleans that focuses on finding areas of agreement
while setting aside differences, creating a broad range of
peoples working together to effect real and necessary change.
Mutual respect, open mindedness and a commitment to collaborative
action are the only requirements of membership. Our primary
function is to identify short and long terms needs of the
community and fill them, simultaneously using the process
to educate, empower, and restore dignity, rights and equality
to all.
The Get Your Act On! web site is being designed as a resource for Louisiana area activist groups and individuals to help facilitate arranging, coordinating, and promoting actions and events. We will grow the site over time to act as an informational directory with listings of activist, socially progressive and liberal political groups, local, state and national officials, media contacts, alternative media sources and much more. NEW ORLEANS Join the Louisiana Activist Network as we take the struggle to the heart of the war machine, Washington, D.C. Network, socialize, and celebrate with others committed to the movement as we roll towards the mass rally set for Saturday, September 24th. We are planning to provide social activities, forums and workshops during the trip. Cindy Sheehan will be riding with us. |

We'll keep doing what we do no matter what, but if you've got a couple of bucks to spare for some hard working folks who are putting aside paying work for politics, we're more than happy to accept them! All donations will be used to increase the scope of our progressive activities, build our activist resource center and occasionally to put food in our mouths when we're spending more time on progressive activities than on making a living. |
